Driving is not always easy when weaving in and out of narrow passages, and the hard-packed terrain could lead to a series of punctures.
Liaison > 213 km
Special > 305 km
A pit stop will be positioned halfway through the special stage, before tackling sandy sections that are fairly fast and dotted with small dunes. The rather modest distance does not quite reflect the wide variety of terrain on this stage.

βIβm happy, but this is only the first stageβ, Loprais said matter-of-factly. βThatβs just how it goes, and Iβm grateful. Grateful we made it through. The stage was particularly tricky early on, with a challenging rocky section. After that, things settled down a bit. Thatβs when I started having fun.β

All-Out Right From the Start For Loprais, embarking on his nineteenth Dakar Rally with championship aspirations, it was all-out right from the start. His top result speaks for itself. βI felt completely dialed in. We maximized our run, so it was a well-earned stage win.β The veteran was quick to put things in perspective, though. βItβs only the first stageβweβre just getting started.β

Teammate Ε½ala also described a demanding day in Saudi Arabia. βThe first section went better for us than the final stretch, with some minor hiccups in between. We lost a few minutes searching for a waypoint. We also picked up a flatβ, he recounted.
Broken Suspensions Everywhere βI saw plenty of competitors swapping tires, others dealing with broken suspensions. All things considered, we came out okay. Tomorrow, we head into some really tough terrain toward AlUla. Itβs known for its rocky conditions. I expect a day full of surprises. We know itβs going to be a long one, but for now, weβre satisfied.β
On Monday, competitors face the 504-kilometer second stage from Yanbu to Al Ula, which includes a 400-kilometer special.
