Team De Rooy replaces tire inflation system
WADI AD DAWASIR – After the problems with the tire inflation system in the eighth stage of the Dakar Rally, Team De Rooy Iveco has not taken any half measures.
“Team de Rooy is confronted with problems regarding the Active Tire Pressure System. This system, which was originally designed for military applications, has been used for many years by many rally teams, including Team De Rooy,” says team manager Henk van Leuven before the start of the ninth stage.

“Recently, the manufacturer introduced a completely new version that was mounted by Team de Rooy on all its rally trucks. The installation in the trucks has been tested and approved by the manufacturer. Problems arose during the Dakar Rally, which the manufacturer has not been able to solve until now. A possible cause could be ‘too high temperatures’ to which the equipment is exposed,” says Van Leuven.
Team de Rooy regrets that the technical problem has just now surfaced. “Of course, a race like the Dakar Rally is not the place to experiment, here you have to fight for the best result. That is why, in consultation with the manufacturer, we decided to convert the trucks of Janus van Kasteren and Martin van den Brink back to the old system, while we made the changes to the rally truck of Vick Versteijnen, as advised by the manufacture.

So from today on we go for certainty for our two ‘leaders’ and work together with Vick to get the new system working perfectly. We hope today for a problem-free day,” said manager Henk van Leuven on behalf of Team De Rooy.
