Stage 2 Zagora β Zagora
Today’s 296 kilometer long stage was completed by the team with starting number 500 in 3:30:26 hours
About last night…
…in our mobile workshop
With the special stage of 311km and 397km liaison in yesterdays extreme conditions, our trucks needed some special attention from our skilled mechanics πͺπΌπ§π©βοΈπ
The wear and tear was noticable after the three Powerstars Torpedo’s went through the tough terrain at that speed and temperatures π₯΅π₯
CornΓ© van Drunen has managed to assign every crew member to their tasks when moving the entire mobile workshop to the new location in Zagora π.
This way they would be ready to get to work for arrival when Janus, Michiel and Anja would cross the finishline π All this hard work payed of the next day, because;
Ladies go smoothly through the dunes
With an eighth time for Anja van Loon during the second stage of the Rallye du Maroc, the ladies are satisfied.
They have a problem-free day and choose not to take any risks on the many stones.
βThere was so much damage to the trucks yesterday,β says Anja. βToday was a similar test, so we didn’t want to break anything. It went very well, now we went smoothly through the dunes. We didn’t make any mistakes, so a good day for us! On to tomorrow.β
Van Kasteren triumphed
After yesterday’s terrible day, luckily things went a lot better today with Janus van Kasteren, Marcel Snijders and Darek Rodewald.
The men of Boss Machinery Team De Rooy FPT became winners of the second stage. βToday is a nice day. The first part was stones, stones and more stones. In fact, today we had everything you noramally encounter in a Dakar rally: Stones, heavy sand and dunes.“
“Excellent dunes. Went well. For the first fifty kilometers it was mainly a matter of watching out for the tires. It’s important to save some money in that part. Then, after neutralization, it was trails through dried-up riverbeds with very heavy sand.“
“The engine had a hard time there. It got very hot, just like the tires. You then have to drive at two bar and the temperature therefore rose considerably. Then came quite high dunes. We overtook four trucks there.”
“At the end there were some fast paths. It was a really nice day to ride.β According to Van Kasteren.
Becx finished fourth
The fourth truck in the daily ranking is that of Becx Competition Team De Rooy FPT. Michiel Becx piloted his Iveco Powerstar over the vaaried test in exactly three hours and fifty-five minutes.
Navigator Edwin Kuijpers said it was a nice day: βWe had a nice drive and we didn’t do anything crazy. There were a lot of bad paths with a lot of stones. We got a good shake today. It’s great that we achieved fourth place without any risks. Also learned a lot in the dunes. Got stuck on a top once, but luckily we were back on the road within 5 minutes.β
After yesterday’s long day, it was also nice for Becx, Kuijpers and Van Ginkel that only a hundred kilometer connection had to be covered.
Today’s 296 kilometer long stage was completed by the team with starting number 500 in 3:30:26 hours. Martin Macik finished second at just over six minutes. The Latvian Pascavicius finished third, fifteen minutes behind the day’s winner Van Kasteren.
