Good start in Saudi dust for Ladies
On the 27-kilometer prologue, Anja van Loon mainly wants to stay out of trouble and hopes to move up a few spots for the first real stage of the Dakar Rally. Van Loon wins two spots and has no problems in the dust that lingers. On to the first stage!
“It went really well,” says Anja. “It was really heavy and loose sand though, so the Iveco had a tough time. But there’s enough power in the truck that it gets through it. There wasn’t much wind, so the dust lingered, which was unfortunate. That’s why we didn’t take any risks, but managed to overtake a few trucks.”
After overtaking another truck, there was even more dust. “That’s kind of part of it. It’s a good start and I’m really happy with 16th place. In the truck it also went well with Floor and Marije. Tomorrow will be a tough and long day, so there too we mainly want to do our own thing.”
